about us departments submission guidelines agency associations & policies links & resources

Thank you for your interest in Lucas Talent. Please review the following list of submission guidelines for the various departments at Lucas Talent. Please note that faxed, emailed and/or web site submissions will not be considered, nor do we accept any drop-in appointments.

The agents make every effort to go over submissions weekly. The office will call to either set up an appointment or advise that we are unable to offer you anything. Although we do not accept responsibility for any material submitted, as a courtesy we try to keep submissions on-file for 30 days after calling in case people wish to pick them up.

We represent trained, professional actors for film and television. If you are interested in submitting yourself for consideration for representation please review the following.

The standard submission for professional actors to agents is an 8x10 black and white headshot, attached to your work resume listing your work history and training as an actor. A cover letter, and a demo tape of professional work may accompany the headshot and resume.

There are four agents who represent actors for film and television: Richard Lucas, Deb Dillistone, Debbie Mahood and Elena Kirschner. If you want your submission to get to a particular agent, please enclose it in an envelope with the agent's name on it. If you wish to submit to Lucas Talent generally, and have all four agents review your submission, please either drop it off with reception or mail it to the agency.

We represent children of all ages. Children should be outgoing and at ease around other people, with the ability to take direction. Experience is preferred but not mandatory.

What to send in? The standard submission children is an 8x10 black and white headshot (if you do not have professional photos a current snapshot is the next best thing), attached to your work resume listing your work history (if your child doesn't have any acting experience or is too young to have taken any performance related classes, please write a brief note listing their attributes and/or natural abilities). A cover letter, and a demo tape of professional work may accompany the headshot and resume.

How to get an interview? You can mail the above defined package to the Lucas Talent office or if you choose to drop off your submission, please do not expect to meet with an agent without an appointment. The agents review submissions every week, and you will be contacted with a response.

Thank you for your interest in the Commercial Department. We are accepting submissions, please note the following guidelines for your package:

You must be 18+ years of age. Acting/Film & TV experience isn't required, but encouraged. Your package should include a 8x10 black and white headshot, cover letter, and working resume.

We prefer to work with clients based in western Canada. There is a broader choice of literary agents in Toronto and writer/directors who are based there should contact an agent in their area.

So you want representation? Here's what you need to have:

  • A body of work preferably with produced credits. Writers should have three to five screenplays or if they intend to write for the television market five or more TV scripts (spec & original). Directors should have directed one or more feature films and/or at least several short dramatic works. Prospective clients need to appreciate that their work on the page or on tape are the tools an agent needs in order to help the client find employment opportunities. The better the tools, the better the opportunity.
  • Knowledge of the industry (both theoretical - provided by film schools, universities, etc, and practical).
  • A collaborative personality. This is a people business. You must work well with others!

How to approach us?

The best way is by telephone. We do answer all of our calls (the same day if at all possible). Be prepared to pitch yourself and one of your projects. You want to get us to read your work. You do that by telling us a good story and making us want to read it. This is a skill every writer needs to have. The other route is to get someone in the industry to speak on your behalf and their reference will encourage us to take you seriously and to read or, in the case of directors, look at your work.

We at Local Color have just celebrated our Ten year anniversary and are looking forward to the next ten.

The standard submission for background performer to agents is an 3x5 snap shot of yourself (8x10 headshot is also acceptable), attached to your work resume. Your resume should include all of the following:

  • Availability for work during the week (as most productions film Monday to Friday).
  • What type of clothes you have in your wardrobe. Be specific, as a wardrobe is an important part of being a background performer. (some examples are: Business/Casual, Athletic, Tuxedo, Traditional Costumes, Uniforms, etc.).
  • List any equipment you might have such as scuba gear, roller blades, bike, etc.
  • Let us know whether or not you have a vehicle. If you do, please list the make, model, year, and color of the vehicle.
  • Height, weight, hair color, eye color, and clothing size should also be included.
  • List any specific skills you might have such as Military Training, First Aid, Firearms Certificate, etc.
  • List any on set experience you might have.

Thank you for your interest in the Voice Department. Ralph Streich is the Voice Agent. Please note that the Voice Department at Lucas Talent is not entry level. Although we are not currently looking to expand the roster, we will listen to all submissions. When submitting yourself for Voice consideration, please note the following necessaries for your package:

  • A produced Commercial Voice over demo, up to 2 minutes in length (cd's are preferred, but we will accept cassette tapes) is required.
  • You may include Animation, Narration or Promo Demos
  • A working resume
  • Please do not include your headshot.

If you have none of the above, we suggest looking into voice lessons. Instructors/workshops can be found in the phone book, Georgia Straight, etc. From there, an instructor will help you develop your voice and a marketable demo.

Lucas Talent Inc. represents actors that are professional or have completed recognized professional training. If you are interested in becoming a client please see "SUBMISSION GUIDELINES". Please note we do not accept fax and/or email submissions for representation.
